Rats. My super-fancy tray-sliding mechanism isn’t going to fly. The idea (at least on paper) was that the tray could pull out from the drawer box, slide laterally to the right about five inches, then push back and lock into place. The tray itself would slide on brass bushings fit into a pair of tracks cut into the bottom if the drawer box.
The problem is not that it doesn’t slide- technically, it does- but rather the feel of it is all wrong. In short, it is clunky, and the table this mechanism is meant for just needs something more elegant. I had suspected this would be the case, but I think sometimes you have to see things all the way through, even if you are pretty sure they are going to fail.
Oh well. Back to the drawing board.
